Link Project Proposal
Jj Joyce Introduction Thank you for allowing me the opportunity to introduce my link proposal for Animas High School. I will be interning with Rolling Stone Art Studio, a locally owned and operated company that creates jewelry as well as signs using a creative technique called water jet cutting. Internship Placement I will be interning with Debbie and Jim Selbe at their business, Rollingstones Art Studio. The studio is amazing! They use a giant machine to blast a mixture of high pressured water and heavy duty sand to slice through sheets of metal, stone and even glass, creating beautiful pieces of artwork with different metallic properties for local and global art shows. Mentors My mentors names are Debbie and Jim Selbe. Debbie keeps Rolling stones rolling by organizing and selling products, focusing mostly on the financial and social/public parts of the studio. Jim is the Head Artist at Rolling Stones Art Studio. I hope he can offer me good connections with people who have experience in the welding business and that he will spur my artistic nature. I look forward to learning how to use the water jet cutter and creating something of my own. I am stoked to learn more about how a small business works, from managing inventory, to sales to how to handle finances. Rollingstone Art Studio mission The mission of Rollingstone Art Studios is to bring all aspects and materials of mother earth in alignment with our creativity to produce custom artwork for you and the world to enjoy. Goals I do not have any academic goals for this project. Personally I want to become a better artist and learn as much as possible about how this certain type of art is made and also grow individually by creating a few pieces I want. For career goals, I want to learn how to sustain a job and while continuing my artistic pursuits. For my community goals, I wish to make a small pendent for all of the juniors of the three things each individual loves. Project My main project will be based off this statement: How can art give back to the community in a positive way. I will be making a few pendants and handing them out at school as a way to positively affect fellow students lives. I will also be making a few personal pieces as well Challenges I really have not had any challenges in setting up this internship. I met Debbie and Jim, we all liked each other and I am happy to be working with my hands. I know that people spend lots of money to be interned by artists like these. Debbie mentioned $150 an hour is not uncommon. So I am thrilled they want to take me on and my wish is that they are very happy they did. Feelings I feel great about this internship. I am really happy not to focus on grades and school and to have this opportunity. It’ll be awesome to learn more about running and being in an art studio. Conclusion On the web page www.rollingstoneartstudios.com. you can see the water jet videos and jewelry samples. They explain all the different materials that the water jet can cut including glass and concrete. You can even ask for a quote and they have a facebook page. The address is 3117 CR 234 in Durango. The phone number is 970-764-4394. This is an established and really cool business. I am excited to support their efforts and learn how to weld and make jewelry. |
