Book Cover Project Reflection
Q1: What makes for a engaging Book Cover?
A1: An engaging book cover must grab the viewers attention. One of the easiest ways to grab the readers attention is by expressing a certain view, emotion, or theme that relates to the book itself. The trick is finding a way to show this in a way that appeals to the viewer as something that interests them. One way to do this is through color scheme. Say your story is about a bunch of fairies that like to live large and party all the time in their fairy mansions. When i think of fairies i think of sparkles and bright colors so I would add some sparkles and rainbows. unfortunatly that would draw away from the main subject of my photo, so I would add a somewhat darker background, maybe a dark mansion or fairy house of some sort. Then, sense story is about fairies, I would design my own fairy/ies and make them be the subject of the picture by making them the brightest, most beautiful part of the photo. I could also make them stand out with a few photoshop tools such as drop light(do too the dark background).
Q2: How and why is art used for communication?
A2: Art can be used as a form of communication by showing a certain mood or showing a feeling that relates to the subject. The most common parts of art used to express these things are shades and colors. For example, in our book cover we could only use 3 colors (black and white was considered one) which gently forced us to project the mood towards the viewer. My book is about a horror story in a creepy forest so the colors i used where green, red, and black/white. As for why art is used as a form of communication, I believe it is because some people find it easier to show their thoughts and emotions in this way.
Q3: To what extent does a work of art depend on the viewers point of view?
A3: That depends completely on the work of art. For some, a piece of modern art can be so beautiful and amazing it might even reveal something not seen before about themselves.
